Are you looking for a fun and educational activity to help your little ones learn about numbers? This activity is designed to make learning numbers a blast for your child. By using Play-Doh, they can get creative while learning.

What Skills Will Your Child Learn?

  • Number Formation: Children will use Play-Doh to shape numbers, improving their fine motor skills and number recognition.
  • Reading and Tracing: Kids will read and trace numbers, which supports the development of writing skills and number familiarity.
  • Counting: The activity includes counting hearts, which reinforces the concept of quantity and one-to-one correspondence.
  • Drawing Quantities: By adding a specific number of chocolate chips to a cookie, children practice understanding and representing quantities visually.
  • Using a Ten Frame: The ten frame section of the activity teaches kids to organize and visualize numbers in a structured way, an important skill for understanding the base-ten system.

How to Use the Printable

  1. Number Formation: Your child can roll the Play-Doh into long snakes and shape them into the numbers.
  2. Number Reading and Tracing: Ask your child to say the number out loud and trace it with their finger. This will help them recognize and remember the shape of the number.
  3. Counting Hearts: Have your child count how many hearts are on the mat.
  4. Drawing Chocolate Chips: For each number, your child can draw the corresponding number of chocolate chips on the cookie using a brown crayon or marker.
  5. Ten Framing: The ten frame section is a great way to introduce basic addition. Your child can fill in the ten frame with Play-Doh balls to represent the number.

My Favorite Items I Use For Printables

  • Copy Paper & Cardstock: Depending on what project or worksheet I’m doing with my kids, I will always have copy paper and cardstock. Cardstock is more durable than copy paper.
  • Crayons: Of course for coloring pages and other worksheets, I will always have crayons.
  • Markers: Crayola’s washable markers are one of my favorites. The colors are vibrant and they easily wash off of my kids hands and my table if any accidental marks happen.
  • Colored pencils: These can be used for more detailed coloring.
  • Laminating pouches: For worksheets i want to use over and over i like to put them in laminating pouches.
  • Laminating machine: If you use the laminating pouches, you will need a laminating machine to seal the pouch.
